Three Sacramento based musicians with over 100 years of combined performance experience present a diverse program of original, contemporary and traditional musics. The group consists of Jim Malone, keyboards, Steven Krohn, guitar-keyboards, and Rich Defazio, drums.
Jim
Malone, one of Sacramento’s most well known organists, leads the band with a
convincing set of original compositions, and compelling reworkings of
contemporary standards. As a
fixture of Sacramento’s music scene since the early 70’s, Jim Malone has
performed in a variety of jazz and cover bands.
Rich
Defazio, who spends much of the year performing in Tahoe, is one of the regions “first call” drummers. An excellent singer, he is an aggressive yet musical
drummer capable of generating ultimate grooves and rhythmic conceptualizations.
He is master technician of electronic drum kits and a marvel behind an
acoustic drum set.
Steven
Krohn rounds out the trio contributing guitar and keyboard accompaniment to the
ensemble. Krohn is a significant
contributor to the group’s melodic and conceptual song list.
Working at a variety of venues in the Sacramento region since 1966, he
has focused his efforts on composition as well as the piano.
Since
the group offers technical versatility the band can sound like an organ trio, a
piano trio or a highly synthesized musical organization.
